CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FIXTURES: 2021 season

Everything you need to know about Champions League:2020/2021 season

Man City 🆚 PSG  (Champions League semi-final second leg)

After a loss in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals, PSG will have to do much more in the rematch to eliminate Manchester City and prevent them from appearing in their first-ever final. To learn more about this match, take a closer look at our preview:

Man City to Win and qualify

We predicted a win for Man City in the first leg, so we were right. Moreover, our prediction for the second leg is again on the side of Man City after that performance in the second half of the game in Paris. Furthermore, Paris Saint-Germain may have to play without Mbappe, which would make it much harder for them to get a positive result in Manchester. Finally, Pep Guardiola will certainly prepare this second leg onto the smallest details.

Over 2.5 Total Goals

As we expected in the first game of the matchup, we’ve seen three goals then. Since PSG has to chase goals in the second leg, we expect to see at least three goals once again in this match. Both teams have been pretty effective this season, especially in the Champions League where Manchester City failed to score in just one game and PSG averages 3.18 goals per match.

Sergio Aguero or Neymar to Score Anytime

This prediction is a bit risky because it’s never safe to assume who will start in Guardiola’s teams, but Aguero has been playing well lately, scoring two goals in his last three Premier League appearances. And while he didn’t play in the first leg of the CL semi-finals, we expect him to take the field in the rematch and, hopefully, score a goal or two. On the other hand, Since Mbappe might not play in this game, we decided to go again with Neymar, the team’s second-best goalscorer in the Champions League this season. Furthermore, Neymar is third in the entire CL with six goals.

PSG 🆚 Man City  (Champions League semi-final first leg) 1-2

FootballBetExpert Tips and Predictions

Both City and PSG dominate domestically but have never won Europe’s most sought after trophy: Champions league.

Man City to Win

The favorite in this game is Man City, which is a bit of a surprise simply because they are guests in this game. However, City is in fantastic form in 2021 and they enter this game with a bit of a confidence boost after winning their first trophy of the season, the Carabao (EFL) Cup. Furthermore Pep Guardiola is the best coach in the world at the moment. Meanwhile, Paris Saint-Germain is in a grueling fight for the title in Ligue 1. Still, after reaching the finals last year, we feel that PSG is capable of going all the way this year, and they need to beat Man City first in order to do that.

Over 2.5 Total Goals

Both teams have gone over 2.5 total goals in two of their four matches in previous Champions League knockout phases, while PSG has been playing games with many goals the entire season. Their average in CL this season is 3.2 goals per game. Meanwhile, City has an average of 2.4 goals per game and they’ve kept a clean sheet in an impressive 70% of their CL matches. However, both teams have scored in 70% of PSG games and we expect to see this again, which would be a great start to getting over 2.5 total goals.

Neymar to Score Anytime

Since we expect Man City to win and we expect to see a few goals, we decided to bet on someone from the opponents PSG to score. Since Mbappe might not be fully fit for this game, we decided to go with Neymar, the team’s second-best goalscorer in the Champions League this season. Furthermore, Neymar is third in the entire CL with six goals.

CL Preliminary Round Draw

The new season starts on 25 June – exactly 24 days after Liverpool were crowned champions for the sixth time in Madrid – with the semi-finals of the preliminary round. Three further qualifying rounds follow before the play-offs at the end of August to confirm the group stage line-up. That phase begins on 17 September and runs every two or three weeks until 11 December. The knockout stages begin on 18 February, with the season culminating in Istanbul on 30 May.

Twenty-six of the 32 teams that will contest the 2019/20 group stage are confirmed, and they will be joined by six play-off winners in August. Those six sides will come through one of these qualifying paths:

  • Champions route – this path is for domestic title holders, starting with the four lowest-ranked nations in the preliminary round (played as a knockout mini-tournament in Kosovo). The victors are joined by the next 31 lowest-ranked teams in the first qualifying round, with the next four sides added at the following stage. The ten winners plus another two new entrants then face off in the third qualifying round, with the triumphant six then joined by two more sides in four play-off ties. Excluding the preliminary round, all ties are played over two legs, home and away.
  • League route – there are three rounds in all. Four teams start in the second qualifying round, with the two winners joined by six more sides in the next phase. Four teams reach the play-offs, with two ties determining who makes it through to the group stage. All ties are played over two legs, home and away.
